Municipal Matters
Since its birth in the 13th century, Heywood had always been a part of Bury until, after a century of rapid growth and industrialisation, Heywood finally became its own town in 1881, with a council, mayor and town hall. However, national political changes in 1974 saw Heywood become part of the Rochdale borough:
